NR before Resident?

I’ve been applying for moose in a district for 10 years now. MT FWP only draws 1 tag. This year it went to a NR. Is this normal?

I’ve been watching draw results/stats since I’ve been applying and haven’t seen this yet.

I’ve lived in MT since early 2000s and hunted deer and elk but didn’t start putting in for MSG until later. Naive hunter back then, wish I had those points.

I think I read that the non-resident quota is across the region rather than the specific hunt district.

Maybe I’m not a good googler, but I couldn’t find any info on tag distribution for 1 tag in a district. Thanks for that.

If there is only one tag in a district, nonresidents should be excluded from applying. mtmuley

Or if you followed Wyomings lead, you WOULD allow applications where it would be impossible for a NR to draw that tag

There is only 1 tag and has been only one tag since I started applying. A non resident got it this year according to draw results.

• Nonresident Moose, Sheep, and Goat hunting districts with a quota less than 10 are added together to a regional hunting district quota. Quotas opportunities are calculated based off the entire quota for that region and distributed on a rotating base.

I hope they hunt it hard. Lots of good moose and according to the data from the last few years the resident tag recipients have barely logged any days. Makes my blood boil.
