Not my day/may get a new bow earlier than expected

Decided to get out and shoot rifles at the range while it was cool this morning. It was good to shoot but I had the windage turret pop off on my Leupold Varix II. Luckily it’s not my primary hunting rifle. So I will be sending it off for repair by Leupold.

After taking care of chores around the house I decided to run out to the archery club. Set my bow in the stand while I went to retrieve arrows. Heard a clatter and saw the ranges bow stand fall over on my bow. It tweaked both cams, frayed a string, and took a chip off the corner of a limb.

I am not sure if it is worth trying to fix the bow up or not. It is a 30 year old Clearwater. I was planning to upgrade later this year/next year. I just planned on more time to figure out what I wanted and save up for it.

Now I’m looking at my bank account trying to see if I can justify a decent bow. Would be a midline not a flagship. Also considering a budget bow from Cabela’s as I have some points saved up.

I could save money now, get something to use for a while then upgrade later. Then I’d have a backup bow. I also like Randy’s Philosophy of “buy once cry once.”

Instead of going for a hike/scouting trip tomorrow I’ll be figuring out what to do for a bow. Worst things to deal with. Just kicking myself for carelessly trusting the stand. I’ve used it dozens of times this summer.

I've never seen that happen before!!

And I've got some budget scopes from the 1980s.

Sorry to hear about your woes!

You might want to check out the possibility of buying a used bow. Several on this forum in the Classified section.
Gets you into a newer bow without the expense of a brand new one.

Ouch. I had a similar thing happen 3 years ago. But stressful, but it’s doable to get it set up and tuned in before season.

Don’t forget to look at the archerytalk classifieds. Newer stuff probably won’t need strings, older bows probably will.

But I don’t think you’d be upset with a Cabela’s budget anything. The technology has come a long way in just the last 10 years.

I know the used market is an option. It’s just would have to find one that fits my draw length. Pay to have it shipped, pay for a set of strings, and wait for it all before I get set up.

I would be more comfortable getting something in hand so I can shoot this week and get familiar with it.

Driving down to a shop today to see what is available.

I went to shop yesterday. I was looking at a Hoyt Torrex. They still had a couple last year bows on the rack. Only one that had the draw length needed was a Bowtech Carbon one 60lb draw weight.

I didn’t think it would be in my price range even with the mark down. Then the guy told me he was marking it 60% off. Doing the math I about fell over when I realized the price.

I shot both it and the Torrex. I liked the Torrex ok. I would have been fine with it. However, the Carbon one was much smoother. A little lighter draw weight but I decided 60lb was plenty.

I bought the Bowtech Carbon One. I saved enough I decided to upgrade my rest also. Going back today to pick up and tune. Then practice as much as I can this week to get used to the new set up.
