An ordinance holds more legal weight than a simple resolution that a lot of other counties adopted when this circus first started. It may deter the powers that be from dropping wolves in Montrose County. Establishes a basis for a legal challenge, although not much of a challenge since the ordinance opposes state statue that has higher legal standing. Other counties should look at this strategy to get something codified into their local statutes that can make it more difficult to release wolves in their locations.

Sadly, I do agree that this is posturing and won't amount to much of anything. However, if it slows down re-introduction process, even just a bit, I'm for it.

I've hunted in Colorado but I'm from WV, what was the reasoning for releasing wolves back into Colorado to begin with? The ranchers/farmers don't make much from what they bring home anyways, having been a beef farmer my entire life and growing up on the farm. Someone from out west educate me please, but from the places the I saw hunting out there, it looks as though the majority of the livestock ranges over a much larger area than we have in the east where most of the time the livestock have fenced in areas. So I would imagine it would be much more difficult to maintain/keep up with the animals the ranchers do have due to the terrain and vastness of that country than it is back in the east where we can just go out to this field vs the other to check on the cows. Not to mention Colorado has other predators like lions to deal with also.

Interesting. I assume some places in Colorado are becoming like parts of Montana where there are so many people moving in from CA and other areas? Almost every person we talked with out there last year was someone that moved from other states.

The County commissioners need classes on taxonomy and state preemption.

Symbolic in nature, I suppose. Won’t change anything as Chairman Polis and Wildlife Czar Reis maintain total control over wildlife management with absolutely zero regard for rural Coloradans.
