10 days anywhere in the world...

If you could go on vacation in late June or early July for 10 days anywhere in the world where would it be?

No kids & no pets coming along.

Hunting and/or fishing can absolutely be involved in the trip but not the only thing that happens.

I'm boring. Anywhere in the mountains with a bear tag and a fishing pole. Or on a Northwood lake with a fishing pole.

I did it this summer. Wife and I spent 14 days in the Alps. Austria, Italy, Switzerland and France.

It’s our best vacation together. It wasn’t a hunting trip which allowed us to spend more quality time as a couple. Although there are species available to hunt in the summer.

Argentina and or Uraguay for duck hunting and dorado fishing along with sightseeing in Buenos Aires.

Australia hit the northern territories for some hunting and fishing for a week (those months are the dry season). Then fly down to Sydney for some sightseeing and maybe a bit more fishing.


That's a good time to hunt Africa but IMO not much to do except hunt or take photos.


Alaska is also worth the visit if you've never been. Amazing sights and great fishing. Not sure how much hunting you'd get done in june/july.

With the wife would probably be somewhere in Europe. Without probably Alaska or New Zealand.

Valdez AK in the warm sunshine is incredible. If you go for 10 days you might get a clear day or two RVing around AK would be a great vacation.
That or anywhere I haven't been before.

Swiss Alps for natural beauty since you frame the window of travel as early summer. Can still be chilly up there in summer but a lot of hours from sunrise to sunset to explore. Second choice would be Greek Isles as will be warm enough to swim and lots of history to explore before the summer's peak crowds arrive. You will have moments of uncomfortableness and moments of amazement which is when I feel most alive.

If you want to hunt and fish then choose a place to go hunt and fish and the trip will be very comfortable for you but seems you have done a bit of hunting and fishing along the way and will have a lot more days afield down the road. When you reach the "no go" part of your life staying around the house, will you wish you squeezed in a few more days of fishing and hunting on top of the 1000s of days you did or perhaps recall that time up in the Alps or swimming at the Greek Isles?

Do not go looking for America overseas, though. Instead, embrace the things you encounter which are better than America and be tolerant of those things which are not better. Cherish what you find on your travels then, as return, cherish what you missed about America while were gone. An old person once told me that "these are the good old days" no matter how much makes them crappier than when he was my age. You just need to look for the good rather than lament what has been lost or became enshitified over recent years. I do that with how big game hunting has changed and adapt to the new "normal" as the "old way" is not coming back. Costs to apply and to then buy awarded tags will continue to outrun inflation. Non-residents will see their tag allotment be whittled down to placate the residents who will see their draw odds ever so slightly improve. And, so it goes. These. Are. The. Good. Old. Days.

Travel is the best education. Each of our grandchildren which complete two school years of a foreign language classes get to pick a country which uses that language for a trip with us the summer as graduate high school. The student which then becomes the teacher learns a second time. I feel that way when take someone hunting or fishing as a newbie and see as they see. I feel that way when traveling with younger family members to a city where have been before. I never quite unpack my suitcase as am optimistic I have at least one more grand adventure ahead of me.

I'd probably go back to Peru, see a couple of the same areas and add a few more. We only had a couple hours in Paracas, so this time I'd want to go out to the islands and see all the wildlife (seals, penguins, birds, etc). Adding some fishing to that part of the trip would be awesome. Plus drive out and see the Nazca lines and Huacachina from the ground rather than the air. There were a few spots in the Sacred Valley we didn't see like Pisac and Moray, and I'd like to go to Arequipa, Caraz, and Cajamarca.
