I prefer not to use one. It's really not a big deal. To me anyway.My shortest barrel is 22 inches and that too short. And I burn over 90 grains of powder in one rifle with each trigger pull. And I don't use a match bullets. And I use Leupolds. Fricken amazing I get anything dead. mtmuley

I can understand all the reasons why people like them. They’re just not for me. I don’t want to mess with any of my barrels with cutting and threading. I think they are really ugly- a big club on the end of your barrel. I absolutely don’t want to increase the length of any of my barrels.

The constant ringing in my left ear that years of non suppressed shooting has caused, my kids enjoy shooting WAY more suppressed than unsuppressed, recoil reduction, more coyote calling stands closer together. If I only shot a couple times a year I probably wouldn’t see the benefits of a suppressor. But I shoot a ton and will not shoot another rifle that isn’t suppressed

Foam ear plugs reduce noise just fine for me. I often wear them without shoting when the wind hits 30+ mph.

Ive never felt like the noise of a rifle shot correlated to my coyote succes. Its pretty common where i call to shoot one or a pair, and then call in another one without moving. That might also be due to the fact that where i live, everyone shoots constantly so the animals are used to gunfire.

Im not worried about recoil reduction. I just shoot rifles with managable recoil. same for the kids.

Would be great if there was no wait.. The list of benefits is looonng. It makes shooting waaaay more enjoyable for starters. One wouldn’t know that if they didn’t do it a bit. I’ve been reloading and shooting since before 1980 & hunted several decades with 300 Mags.. and I have seen the light..

I have 2 suppressors .....one for hunting rifles and one for my 9mm PCC. The one for the PCC (which is my "around home" gun) With 147 subs it is INCREDIBLY EFFECTIVE.

In that video you can hear that about the only sound from it is the sound of the action working. If that gun gets used in the house the need for suppression is obvious. The one for my rifles serves to not only quiet them down, it also reduces recoil without the abusiveness of brakes. It allows for keeping sight picture better, follow up shots on animals if necessary or shooting of multiple animals from a herd by folks and doesn't disturb and cause the "freak out" among animals. Both of mine are titanium and only weigh a few ounces and the new OTB cans only add about 2-3 inches to the end of the barrel. I shoot quite a bit and there are definite advantages.....the only real disadvantage is having to toe around the stamp. If you think it is a "slim minority" that are using/buying suppressors.....you need a little reality check. We sell A LOT and I bet our volume as compared to folks like Silencer Central is small change. It is HUGE business and growing exponentially. I have sold cans to quite a few folks that I know have 5+ cans a piece.

I get not wanting to change rifles for them or not feeling like you need/want them but denying they ARE useful, help prevent hearing loss and help with various shooting/accuracy fundamentals is just fuddism.

What herds are you shooting multiple animals from?

I really could not care less about suppressed pistol cartridges. I could not think of anything more worthless.

I do agree with you on 147 grain 9mm. 147 grain hardcast at 1049 fps rip through about anything. Only thing better is 255 grain hardcast at 1300 fps out of my 1911.

The 6” suppressor probably weighs less than the 6” of barrel that was hacked off. If I had to have a 24” barrel and a suppressor I’d probably not own a suppressor

I’m actually more steady shooting off sticks with the added weight of the suppressor on the barrel. But I’ll guarantee you I’d never cut or thread any of my rifles I’ve had for over 50 yrs. It just gives me an excuse to buy new ones.

That steadyness is why a lot of us still prefer 24" barrels. Theres science to that, and its not all about what a chronograph shows.

How many competitive long range guys do you see shooting 16" barrels?

I’ve bought 3 barrels in the last 6 months for centerfires 19” .223, and 20” in 6.5prc and 7-08. Dreamy 1000 yard rifles for all.

My rifle for this fall is an 18” 6.5 creedmoor shooting them damn target bullets

Imagine if you cut a barrel to 18” and threw a 6-8” suppressor on it.

I wear ear plugs when i shoot. Most of the time when im hunting i wear them for wind anyways. 30+ mph wind is hard on the ears.

I dont shoot around residential areas. dont shoot at my house. Shoot at clubs, government ranges, and in national forest away from houses. not worried about it. Shooting a rifle doesnt make the animals here run away. Might be because so many people do it. It is very common to shoot a coyote and then call in another one or 2 right away.

Not exclusive, the majority of firearm owners, hunters, and shooters do not use supressors. your in a slim minority.

Aside from those three not mattering here in wyoming mountains, every time im hunting i hear a lot of loud thunder. At 8,000 to 10,000 feet the thunder is quite loud. Listening to that for a couple hours each day, one or two shots from a rifle with a proper long barrel seems like a pretty minor inconvienance.

Shooting suppressed has made shooting fun. It makes me want to practice with my hunting rifle more, when I used to dread practice and see shooting only as a means to an end. Now I almost can’t get enough of it and my only limiting factor is time and ammo $$.
