Newest US Senate Land Sale Amendment

Seriously, (and I believe this has already been floated here) we need a super pac to oust Lee in the primaries. Now would be a good time to get it going. Hippies to MAGA would come together to support this. By election time we'd have millions to utilize.

If we just had a person with some political connections, the passion and platform to get the word out 😎

Read they plan on voting today and tonight for the bill.

So hopefully it fails in the senate and if not hopefully the house doesn't follow suit and approve it.

Unbelievable where we find ourselves. This plus recent Supreme Court rulings has me wondering what's going on in our country. So much for what we thought were guaranteed rights

More bonus points for zinke. Great article.

Edit: if and when he kills this in the house - montanans had better notice. I am sure there will be growing opposition for his next campaign from the same people who fund mike lees.

We are in the “Find out” stage of the process. This is where they tell the majority of constituents that they don’t understand so should just shut up.

Do any PACs support both parties? It would be great to be supporting public lands candidates in BOTH primaries IMO, would seemingly make this a non-partisan issue?

Could the house undo the amendment?

How does that work - doesnt the house have an opportunity to change it after it gets changed in the sena

At some point the Rs are going to get tired of his games.
Hurr
I read that piece in NYT, was glad to see it. NYT had not covered this issue at all prior, which I was very troubled by, it's huge for our country.

Should be getting a ruling from the Parliamentarian soon. If this stays in, we’re about to find out if we’ve been served up beef steaks or bullshit from those who say they oppose public land sales.

They do want to vote on it before Monday, so the votes have already been counted on the BBB, and any amendments that hit on the Senate floor.

Yes, I agree. Unbelievable. More and more of our rights are on the chopping block. I appreciate your comment. I've been contacting Senators about the Public Land proposition.

Thanks so much for your updates about this issue, really appreciate it. I can only think that massive pressure is being put on all Senators to go along with what Trump wants. John Thune has protected the status of the Parliamentarian so far. Gosh only knows what's going on behind closed doors in Washington D.C. today.

Yes. I would say most PACs are specific industry stuff. It helps their cause to give money to both sides. That said, the voters now define politics as being less about what you believe and more about what you hate. The whole process almost forces picking a side. Like I said before, it's completely broken. This is why we don't make progress on real solutions.

This whole piece of legislation is so mind boggling. How could any member of congress vote for this in good faith with all the bullshit it is wrapped in.
Lower royalty rates on oil, gas and coal extracted from public land? That belongs to we the people. They get it by paying for it and still make a ton of money.
Use affordable housing language as a smoke screen to sell off public land? This is a local government issue which can be solved by proper planning and zoning. Selling off public land will not solve the problem. There are a tone of vacant private parcels way more suitable for this with existing infrastructure.
Oh wait, give 5% of the proceeds of the sale to local government so they can only use it to support infrastructure (to the public land sold?) as determined by the Secretary. Genius. He found a way to earmark 5% of the proceed from the land sale to run infrastructure to the remote piece of public land one of his real estate donors purchases to build a resort on (amenity).
10% for recreational amenities of to cover deferred maintenance on public land? Horseshit. How about not cutting royalties and direct those dollars to deferred maintenance.
All of this is garbage. It is hurting my eyes to read it. If this is a reflection of the intelligence of Mike Lee, I have no idea how he passed law school or got elected.

I have been thinking about it all morning and I think I figured out what a hunting amenity is. I bet they plan to build Dairy Queen’s at strategic locations on our public lands, if so count me in!😂
