It's interesting because Gordon's term is ending soon. Maybe she figured she'd be ousted when there is a new governor and maybe this is a safer bet?

I think Tony Mong leaving was the last straw and certainly had something to do with it.

IME the Director has to march far more in step with, and be ready to sacrifice career by taking a professional bullet, for the Gov. Politics in state wildlife agencies never benefits wildlife.

That new job description is code for for sidelined completely but allowed to keep their paycheck to also keep them quiet. Seen that one before hear in Colorado.
