Some of us are pretty much stuck here due to family matters. I don't like talking politics but the people in charge here sure are doing some stupid things and the population living in the part of the state NOT in Chicago or Springfield have little to no say in those things.

Im leaving southern illinois to go to mississippi crappie fishing on sunday. I know guys in minnesota that go to canada to fish while guys in illinois go to minnesota. Funny how that works.

Saw this gem today. I always ask myself, is there any limit to the extent and number of gun control laws? Will the anti-gun proponents ever be satisfied? Likely not until the populace is disarmed.

Complaining has replace conversation. That is the core problem. Some don't even want the hint of conversation, only want imply some neutrality by asking to "not talk politics" but only responding to those things they don't agree with. Also odd, no one has even tried to defend this bill. Certainly not me. You seem to be in a bad mood. Hope you get out of it soon.
Sorry @Dave N, it has been that way since 1837 through politicians of all stripes. Politicians aren't very smart which is why they choose that field. Citizens need to be engaged and informed. It makes the complaining have a little more impact.
I think this is a really important observation.
Gun owners can go on the offensive and work on things we know would reduce gun violence, and in the process we'd find more allies. Not the "eliminate the NFA" type of offensive, but one where we start to show up with ideas or efforts designed to reduce the conflict and approach the issue from it's absolute core: lack of access to healthcare for mental issues (suicide is the number one cause of gun deaths in the USA), and helping people in areas known to be hotbeds for gang activity find their paths out, and towards the middle class.
Guns aren't America's problem. Hopelessness is.

Sure. Start something new that isn't a tax on legal gun owners. Everyone is complaining because this is like FOID 2.0. Just another money grab that will equate to zero crime stopped. Thats why everyone hates anything they introduce new. We all know what's coming every time. Especially when it comes from a certain side of the aisle in this state.

No disagreement from me on any of that other than I’m not sure the $10 fee amounts to much and it is used by the state police to fund some positive things. The post was to respond to any belief it might violate the 2a. 50+ years of history and it still stands. Also not a fan of the card or think it does much. Similar to this bill. I wouldn’t stop listening to new ideas though. Still waiting on laws or even ideas to be proposed by 2A groups. LOL. The one take away I have had is that most gun owners have zero interest in reducing gun crime if it means any money from or extra imposition on them. So we are stuck. The person who has to live closer to the consequences of that violence has an equal say in trying to improve it.

Revolving jail doors and a slap on the wrist are absolutely NO crime deterrent. It's like a badge of honor to have a high arrest number on your record.

The vast majority of gun crime and/or violence committed to other people (suicide is the highest, I believe, so not included in this instance) is in the poorest section of big cities. Too many political people blaming guns and not people are making headlines and stirring up their base. If you talk about jailing them then it turns into discrimination against the poor and needy. So what? They broke the law. If I shot someone I would expect to do time. These folks come up with all sorts of excuses for keeping them out of prison. It's time to stop that, but you and I can't do much about it. You say vote. Illinois is locked in with one party and isn't going to change any time soon.

As a native (and finally homeowner there again) of one of the neighboring states with "weak/lax" gun laws that are supposedly the "problem" I would point out a couple of facts....1) By far the WORST most violent part of our state is directly what borders Chicago and it's absolute dumpster fire of policy history. 2) Illinois homicide rate is 20% higher than Indiana despite their ridiculous gun laws and the fact that Hoosiers own gun at nearly twice the per capita rate of Illinois residents 3) Ridiculousness that should offend all Illinois residents? Think about the FOID cards/limits and hoops you have to jump through to have/possess guns and ammunition without it being a crime, and yet I come to hunt and with a quiver of guns, tons of ammo and I am good. THAT should really piss you off. Illinois problems are of THEIR OWN MAKING....own that shit and quit blame shifting to actual functional states.
