New Illinois bill wants handgun ammo serialized

"Red states fault..."

-Chicago Mayor Brandon Jonson

He isn't necessarily wrong in that the guns and ammo are mostly coming from states with lax gun laws.

This solution, though, makes little sense.

With this bill, only if neighboring states also serialized the ammo. Multiple weapons categorized as assault weapons still would be required to be registered if not already forbidden to purchase. Buying something isn't the issue. It's the possession of that gets hinky.
I think most of the rural sheriffs in IL have said that they are not going to pursue or enforce this stuff. There are already millions of these so called assault weapons in the state that were legally purchased and are owned and used responsibly by law abiding citizens. No way in h#ll they can all be tracked.

None of this stuff matters anyway when it comes to crime, because criminals don't follow laws.
