I did not. Hunts that end in unpunched tags typically aren’t that exciting to read about.

honestly, Nevada probably isn't worth it starting from scratch. If you apply for 30 years, you aren't even statistically going to draw an elk or antelope tag. You should draw a single deer tag and for the cost, it just doesn't seem worth it to me. I would rather buy a landowner tag in New Mexico.

Other than elk, I think that's highly dependent on the tags you're going for.

I used to do rifle only as well, but with odds still dropping yearly despite 27 squared points, I made my 3rd, 4th & 5th choices all archery, all species this year. In an attempt to burn points and exit the system. Same for Utah. I want out of both these donations.

Yeah because Utah and Nevada have treated you as a non resident so poorly. Both have such a limited resource that residents that live there year round wait decades themselves to draw most tags one of which you have drawn and majority will never draw in their lifetime. Utah alone they have to decide whether or not to put in for MSG or DEA and you get to apply for all each year. You are choosing to play. Stay home and hunt whitetails if your "donations" are hurting you so much. FFS. Your entitlement and constant whining sucks.

Some of the most hardcore hunters in the country hang out here, with many more lurking here. By far, the members of this forum are the most informed on issues affecting hunting, when compared to other forums. The level of positive activism of our members is beyond compare. Those people are what makes this forum a great place. We will moderate/monitor this forum in a manner that builds on those attributes, removing anything that detracts from such.

Is this the bunch you somehow expect me to sympathize with? The ones who handed the keys to SFW? The one's who egregiously derailed Randy & RMEF's attempt at reforming the Expo from the folks sponsoring AZ HB2072 in 2012? The ones who put all our UT public land tags on their auction block? I've hunted both UT and NV and am incredibly grateful for my experiences there along with having the privilege to have even been given a tag there when I reside elsewhere. I could be like some I suppose and just be a taker and once I get my tag and I am done with their resources just sit back and run my mouth at how corrupt they are rather than being appreciative and be happy to contribute to their state agency or their programs for habitat or guzzlers but that's not me I guess. I enjoyed my hunts so much that they both can take my money for many years to come and I am completely OK with that. Maybe I'm a fool to think my funds are helping them but I would rather be a fool than whine and trash a place that has given me an opportunity to have cool experiences there and on my own. It's pretty simple, if you don't like it, don't apply. They owe you nothing. I would wish you luck in the upcoming draws but I'll pass. Hopefully they go to a young kid

Best I can do is on the hoof photos. These are pulled from a video, so sorry that the quality isn’t great. I have lots of videos of bucks from the hunt but not many photos. This is the best buck I could find. I got within 40 yards of him twice. He looks crabby in front but his forks are turned in so they are better than they look in the stills.
I have a lot of “what ifs” from the hunt. The elk hunting is way better than the deer hunting where I live, so I admittedly didn’t have nearly as much archery mule deer hunting experience as I should have with a tag like that. I’ve always been told to wait to stalk a buck until he’s in his second bed. Two of the days that I saw that buck his first beds were in ideal spots for a stalk, and I think I would have had enough time to get on him both times. Then his second beds those days were much less ideal spots.
Looking back, I also regret not putting a stalk on this buck. He wasn’t a big scoring deer, but he had a nice frame and cool character with the whitetail looking rack and some extra eye guards on his right side. It was the day after I had found the big typical and this buck was in a fairly open basin, so I thought I’d be able to find him again later in the hunt if I lost the typical. I would have had to drop down the mountain a long ways but I could have put the big juniper between myself and the buck and if he had went left or right after he got up, I would have had a shot. That ended up being the only day I saw him.
I didn’t find any giants like the unit is known for, but I also tried to hunt where I wouldn’t be competing with guides. With them scouting and running cameras all summer, I probably wasn’t hunting in the right areas to find the huge bucks if I wasn’t seeing guides. I think there’s probably some deer that no one knows about, but I’d guess the guides know where the majority of the biggest bucks are. I have never had a really coveted mule deer tag so the value that is put on those deer and the competition that comes along with it was interesting to experience.

I just reviewed several different hunt point statistics for the Nevada 2024 and 2025 draws. I don’t think the final draw numbers are published yet for last week’s 2026 draw.
Every tag for any species in Nevada is a “win”. I am very blessed, thankful and grateful to have drawn a NR rifle antelope tag with mid-tier points after looking at several draw charts. Without saying, odds are long and tough in Nevada even with near maximum points for both residents and nonresidents.
I still think Nevada and Utah are worth the time, money, and effort, although nothing is getting easier to draw or hunt.

A "taker"??? Son, you must not have been around in 2012 when HB2072 was working it's way through the Arizona legislature. I personally stopped that bill by blowing the whistle to KTVK and getting three TV segments nailing the sponsor, Jerry Weiers, to the cross. The bill that would have converted the 500 best Arizona trophy public land big game hunting tags to the auction block. He withdrew his legislation on the spot, with a TV camera in his face. Approx. $20 million/year @ 15 years = $300 million dollars of DIY public land trophy tags saved..........so far. That's one helluva lot of a lot of guzzlers. I had two parties contribute to my email with some statistics, including Randy. I don't recall your name coming up to lift a finger to help me. Must have been out hunting or whining? I don't know. Do you apply for these tags today? If so, no need to thank me. You can confirm all this in the MM archives.

I hunted a pretty easy to draw Oct rifle deer unit. Really enjoyed the hunt / mountains and ended up shooting a small 4 point, which was the only buck I saw after 4 days hunting.

NV offers some of the best quality limited draw hunt options for multiple species in the West. Unfortunately, nonres hunters have figured that out and draw odds continue to drop every year even with their bonus pt system. There are a lot more hunters starting off applying than the handful of tags issued for a unit every year.
I faithfully applied for every species available to nonres in NV for around 20 years. I decided to ditch NV, it was getting too expensive applying in several states and I'd rather put that $ towards an Alaska or other trip that is guaranteed rather than tossing $ to the wind. If NV was a closer drive I would likely still apply, but it's a heck of a long ride to scout....and hunt. If I had $ to burn I would still apply but I quit! I went on 1 great antelope hunt in 20ish years of applying and draw odds stink!
