Years ago I ordered a pair of woolen "New Swiss Army Officer's Pants" from Sportsman's Guide. When they came I found a handkerchief and a 2 swiss franc coin in the pocket. I called SG and asked if they came with accessories. Huh? When I explained, they gave me the choice of a refund (keep the pants) or another pair. I wore them for a number of years until age and an overactive fork made them shrink.

Big Bills make a pair of 6 pocket heavey duty Merino wool pants I highly recommend. Been wearing mine for 5 seasons now and absolutely love them. Before them I had worn my grandfathers Woolrich red and black checkered pants which tucked into your boots. They had served 3 generations and been in continuous use for over 60 years. You can’t go wrong with heavyweight wool for warmth and longevity.

I have been wearing wool for decades.... here in Alaska hunting season is usually to early for super warm clothing, but when I'm traveling (snowmobiling into town for supplies).. I'm wearing wool....
I have several sets of gallatin range wool stuff... I bought a bunch on sale at cabela's back in the day... I think it's made by columbia??... good stuff tho!!

After reading numerous articles, and watching videos from a guy named Clayes Hayes, who did Survivor, I came to the conclusion I needed wool clothing. What sold me was "keeps you warm even when wet". I did searches and ended up buying a few Pendelton shorts and sweaters. And finally, I found a company in Vermont that looked like pretty decent wool clothing, in tall sizes too (I'm 6'2"). I used only West German milsurp wool for the first 20 years year in Idaho. Unobtanium now.
The only drawback is that they get really heavy when wet.

Still wear my old Cabela's Wooltimate bibs and jacket in the tree stand sometimes. They belong on the 10 year old and still going thread.

Filson is a great choice, though expensive.

Last winter I was shocked to see the moth damage to my Filson Double Mackinaw cruiser. The damage was just everywhere. This is their top-of-the-line heavy winter coat. Now a new one can cost close to $700. I paid $299 close to 30 years ago.

I have four Filson Garments. I told that to their customer service rep. He agreed to repair it. I figured the repair would easily cost a couple hundred dollars. It took several months. I got notice last week that the repair was done, no charge even for shipping. It is on its way back to me.

As GREAT as Filson wool clothes are there is yet another level of ultimate quality. "Sleeping Indian " wool clothing. About 22 years ago I bought a pair of Sleeping Indian wool gaiters for around $100. They were seconds, on sale, 50% off. Normal price just under $200.

About that time my gunsmith called me up, He is long dead now. Was A real master at his trade. Used the GI Bill to go to Gunsmith School after the Korean War in which he was awarded the silver Star and Purple Heart.

He wanted me to meet a young man maybe 22 years old who was spending time around his shop.

I said sure, send him up to my horse ranch for a weekend,,,long drive. I liked him. He came up regularly. He did not even graduate from Junior High much less high school.

I laid out a course of action for him to get an education. He did everything I told him to do. Five years later he had his geologist degree, and no dept. As a graduation present, I gave him a pre-64 Model 60 featherweight in 308. My gunsmith gave him a premium French walnut stock blank. Years went by, I did not see him, then one day a few years ago he wanted to come my way and say hello.

He did and he showed me that Model 70 all finished. Looks great, Then he said he had present for me. It was a complete Sleeping Indian clothing outfit. Gaiters, bib height pants, an Anorak jacket, vest, backpack, gloves even a hat.
