Opening weekend here in ND was pretty warm which seemed to limit deer movement so we had nothing to show for our efforts. In honor of Veteran's Day the kids were out of school last Thursday and Friday so we headed back to see what we could find.
Though he is not one of the big bucks we had seen opening weekend, this one caught me in a moment of weakness and I gave in to temptation. Of course the next day I saw one of the big boys. That is the way it goes, when you shoot one you are done.
Friday morning the wife ended up getting her buck but she wouldn't let me take a picture of it.
Saturday morning the only person with a tag was the wife of a good friend. I happened to catch a glimpse of a buck moving through a cattail slough from just shy of a 1/2 mile out and watched him until he bedded down. Came up with a plan and had her sneak into position while I went around the opposite side with intentions of pushing the buck her way. It worked like a charm and she was one happy hunter with a cool looking buck that field dressed 197 lbs.
