National Guard helicopter lands on private property; elk antlers stolen

From the article it appears brass is trying to mitigate severity of charges and embarrassing (fubar) press.

You ever find a set weighing 40lbs and you likely have the world record. That would be huge!
I wouldnt know. I kill raghorns and dont find/look for sheds. I figured the RMEF was a relevant source of what a nice pair of antlers would weigh.

Damn! They may need to hire a new media person.

As someone who's worked and flown lots with rotary winged dudes, those guys DGAF and pretty much do whatever they want...... on public and get away with it. I've seen some pretty wild flight plans be approved, including fishing trips. Again, all on public or with prior approval from landowner, and again, with an approved flight plan.

Crazy that these guys just decided to randomly land on private to grab antlers. With all the leeway aircrews get, it's absolutely stupid to pull this off and likely ruin it for the rest of the wing.

My buddy has a chalked horn best guess is around 390” weighed like 19 pounds @antlerradar what would 40# of elk horn score?
The best set I have ever found weighed 15lb each at a year old, maybe would be a lb or two more if smoking fresh. They score 415/420 gross as a seven point typical. I could see a 40lb set scoring less if they had more mass and some palmation. The number of 40lb sets is close to zero, the number of 40lb sets that score under 380 is likely zero.

I may be wrong but if I were one of the soldiers on that helicopter I'd be much more concerned with how much imagination my commanding officer had when applying UCMJ than the consequences from the civilian authorities. Just my opinion.
UCMJ doesn’t apply to guardsmen the same way it does to active duty soldiers.
