For the last 3 decades, if you are in the National Guard, and the nation goes to war, bet you are going to get called up.
My buddy who finished his 20 years with the guard less then 5 years ago had 2 overseas deployments one in Iraq one in Afghanistan. Now on the flip side of that I have it on very good authority that the guard at least here in Oklahoma of the 60s-80s was a much different beast. Lots of guys using it for weekend camping and drinking trips was not unheard of at all and pretty common. My grandpa had a few good stories about trying to rein in guardsmen who were having to good a time and exercises that weren't exactly by the book.
That course was pretty awesome.
