Let me preface this by saying my pictures are not up to par with most found on the site because all I had was my iPhone. But, here goes....

Tried to do some turkey hunting this morning before the rain on some public land. I'm in western Oklahoma. When I first pulled into the hunt area I was greeted by an elk in a field. It was 150 yards away or better so I used my binos as a zoom lens on my phone.

As I proceeded up the mountain (a small hill to you westerners) I came across a couple more small groups feeding. One was a spike bull that still had one side of his headgear. Here a couple more pics.

Then as I was walking through a wooded area down into a bottom I bumped a group of hogs. They were took off so I crouched behind a log and hit my mouth call a couple times to try and get their attention. I guess it worked to some extent. They turned around and headed back toward where they came from passing by me at about 30 yards. I put my bead on a small one and lead the lead fly. A young male, he ran about 30 yards squealing and then expired. A quick gut job and southern-engineered rigging to an El Cheapo Walmart back pack and I was walking back to the truck in the rain packing pork.

I saw a few hens in a field on my way out so I snuck in for a closer look. No toms. But I snapped a pick of the dogwoods in full bloom that I thought were beautiful. They were my grandmothers (who passed away 2 years ago) favorite tree.

Overall I feel it was a successful morning even though I was unsuccessful at shooting some poultry. This area is a draw area for elk but they only draw one tag per year out of about 7,000 applications. Don't figure I'll ever elk hunt there.

Very nice! I saw 9 gobblers here in Ohio (opening day) this morning, but couldn't close the deal. I had one at 40 yards coming to my decoys but couldn't get a good shot, and 2 others walked out on the opposite side of the field and he went to them, away from me.

Congrats! I've never seen elk or hogs while turkey hunting...

It's only the second time I've seen the elk. I was hunting the same place last year and saw one.

I don't know why I put Western OK in my original post. I'm in Eastern OK.
