MT Cow Elk Help

Hey Guys,
I didnt put in for the draw this year was just going to buy my tag over the counter for deer and elk after draws in other states. But this last week i got a line on some property around Miles City to hunt on the rancher says he has lots of elk in there late season in the alfafa fields. I tried to look up the draw odds and rules but didnt have much time this morning to hunt for the info.

Wondering can i still put in for the cow elk tag before the june 1 deadline and does anybody know what the draw odds are on that i am guessing its a long shot.

Last year it was a 100% draw for cows for residents if you are going to hunt on private land not in BMA. If you are hunting on BLM, forest service, etc it was a 40% draw for residents. Cant help you with the draw for non-residents.

Hey man just by the info you provided the units surrounding Miles City are 701,702, & 704 not sure which unit you are hunting they all converge on Miles City almost it seems. But if you are looking at picking up an Elk B tag you are probably gonna wanna put in for 900-80 there was 1000 tags last year total 100% odds for NR's and looks like several even drew as a second choice. It would help narrow it down if I knew what unit you were hunting do you have this info? The 900-80 tag covers what looks like at least a half dozen units in the regs.

Thanks for the help guys the Unit is 701. So the 900-80 lic what is that is it good for anywhere in the state?

This is a copy of the regs. for that tag you are looking at. Go to Mt. fish and game website and click hunt planner it will tell you everything you need to know including a map of 701.

Elk B License. Drawing only. Apply by June 1.

900-80:

1000 licenses. Only valid on private lands outside Block Mgmnt Areas in HDs 401, 403, 411, 412, 426, 447, 450, 500, 502, portion of 510 west of HWY 310, 511, portion of 520 south and east of West Fork of Rock Ck, 530, 570, 575, portion of 580 south of Sweetgrass Ck, 590, portion of 701 north of Yellowstone River, south of HWY 12 and west of Sumatra-Myers Road, 702, 704 and 705.
