Looks like i'm going to go old school on the rascally rabbits soon. I have developed some loads for my 40 gauge (yes 40 gauge)...bore diameters of .488-.495. No wads are available commercially so I'm making them out of cereal box and 50cal felt wads. The load is 45 grains of FFg Black powder and the same volume of shot. In this case it is #5 shot so that is about 9/16oz by weight. At 15 yards I can put all 109 pellets in a 24" circle and at 20 yards the pattern opens up but should still do the trick on the damn rabbits.

I'm going to try this method so I don't have any guts to take care of at home...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WK78UrGmHzc

The plan is to make traditional hassenpfeffer as well as Rabbit Boudin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMcDn6U7LZw

There are plenty of rabbits out there. I have been taking the opposite approach and glassing them up on sunny slopes and shooting them at long range with the .17 hmr. Good practice for next years sheep hunt. A head shot at 100+ yards is challenging and leaves the meat nice and clean

I would love to shoot some more bunnies. Any rabbits I have shot have been more "Hey look, a rabbit!" while deer hunting. Planning on taking my son out this spring with the .22 LR and shoot some while they are still white and sitting on the brown.
