Just started Storm of steel by Ernst Jünger! Figured it was fitting considering I just finished re-reading the LOTR.

Is it fitting because of WW1 or is there another connection between the two that I'm missing?

I'm only a few chapters in, but it's good so far. I read Gulag Archipelago a few years back. This story, and some of the stories in that book, are very similar.

Tolkien served on the front in WW1, what he saw and experienced there had an instrumental part in molding the LOTR universe. From the Dead Marshes to Orc warfare.

About half way through Cry Havoc, by Jack Carr, author of The Terminal List series, featuring the father of James Reese. Set in Vietnam, in the days of Tet and MACV-SOG. Had a good friend that was in SOG and it rings true.

Stellar book about hunting for mountain goats in the early 1900s in southern BC. Hornady is a good story teller and comes across as a better naturalist and conservationist than pretty much every contemporary author. He also comes across as more genuine. Great read, highly recommend it. The black and white photos are also very impressive.
