Four Montana men face 33 criminal charges for a series of poaching incidents across the Montana including six bull elk, three mule deer, four white-tail deer and a black bear.

Sounds like a real group of winners that took a heavy toll in a short amount of time. Solid work by a guy I worked with when we were both techs

We can only hope that the case is taken seriously by the court. Too often the fines are reduced and any jail time is suspended.

Not that it will stop these guys, but their hunting privileges should be rescinded for their lifetimes.

An aside, it is kinda amazing how stupid some of these guys are. Their cell phones and their need for attention provide the evidence for convictions.

I wouldn't let them off that easy. Jail time would be minimal at best and everything else could be replaced with the right amount of money. There needs to be a life altering punishment. Loss of hunting license. Loss of driver's license etc.

If theres anything hunters, landowners, and fwp should agree on - ite increased penalties, jail time, and/or loss of rights for stuff like this.

The potential fines (which will likely be settled much lower) is what less than many people would pay for the opportunity to hunt in that permit area.

No. For most of these guys financial loss and jail time is a bigger deterent. Especially jail time. mtmuley

A good example of hunters keeping an eye on their own and good work by our wardens.

Land owners in the Elkhorns do a pretty good job of keeping an eye on what they can. Too many instances like this as of late, and I hope they nail them to the wall as much as is allowed

As long as we continue to glorify trophies for likes and insta-fame, this issue is going nowhere. My hope is that all major SM platforms ban dead animal photos. I thought it would have already happened by now, but maybe just a year or two more.

The last serious poaching case I knew of in Musselshell county involved illegally driving across non motorized federal lands, cutting the fence and trespassing on private land to kill a 390 inch bull. The guy got a slap on the wrist.

Boyer validated his general elk license on Sept. 24, 2023, for Hunting District 388, although cellphone data showed him in Hunting District 380 at the site of the bull elk kill.

I always find it humorous that when someone breaks numerous laws to poach, they take away hunting privileges. Like that matters to them. The smug look on the guy's face in the mug-shot says it all.

This is one of my favorites sites to check out. Some of the stories of stupidity are better than any fiction writer could come up with.

I’m glad they got caught. I’m glad they had the evidence against them.

I’m not glad that the article basically outlines the SOP for catching poaching SOBs, and educates criminals on how to get away with it.

Nail them to the wall. In bypassing the fair allocation process, they stole this wildlife from the general public.

It's also interesting that people think Game Wardens are somehow not very intelligent. I had to deal with the lead investigator of Montana FWP for an issue I had information of. Eye opening. mtmuley

I was tempted, but - the longer its up the higher odds that the judge, prosecutor, and/or potential jury see it and if they do theyll hopefully draw the easy conclusions.

He literally created his FB account and then posted that - to me that says everything about his motivations and intentions.
