More garbage MT bills - HB281 E-bikes aren't motorbikes

Not if you are a dazzling urbanite working in a bustling downtown full of shops & girls in sundresses & men in florshiems & brooks brothers suits. Then you just get to work all sweaty if you ride your old-fashioned pedal-bike!
Some people get sweaty rolling out of bed. What's your point?

What's wrong with non subsidize, zero carbon, old fashioned pedal power?😉
I'm hard against E-bikes in motor-less areas, but Ben's nails the issue perfectly.

It's not about 1000 boomers in Bozeman, it's about 1MM people in cities. Electric shooters are wildly popular in cities, the pay to ride ones, in downtown areas where allowed.

Bikes allow people in the 1 to 5 mile distance buffer to commute without a car and/or making dramatic and more costly infrastructure changes that could take a decade to build.

Where bikes really shine are folks that live that 1 to 5 miles from a subway/rail station. Many of those stations don't have a lot of parking, and building more parking is difficult due to a variety of geographic and cost constraints. Currently someone who is 2 miles from a station might drive there to commute in or just says screw in and parks downtown. If they can ride to the train station though... and you can park an order of magnitude more bikes in the same size space.

Riding a MT bike or a road bike for that matter while exercising is wildly different front commuting. It requires a fair bit of skill/ balance to deal with all the stopping and starting that comes with navigating the urban landscape... and it's a pain in the ass in non athletic where. Having the extra assist allows you to have your seat much lower, more balanced by causing you to lose a lot of torque.

Now will the subsidy have the desired effect... 🤷‍♂️ but I would love to see waaaaay more ebikes around cities.

That's stupid. I don't see anyone ditching their car for an ebike. One can be used in the rain and winter, one can't be used in those conditions by most people.
With this bill they can have an electric car and bike in the garage. They may not have any electricity to charge them though, so that could be a small problem.
