Montana Bear

I dont know what that measurement was. I had to call and find out for myself. He went to the Tax. to measure it himself for some reason and that is all he measured. I'll get the real numbers from the tax. He is still to dang excited to think straight.

Nice bear! I might have to try and shoot one sometime, it looks like fun.

My buddy measure at the right part of the skull. The taxidermist measured it today. It's still wet mind you, but as of right now he is measured at 20 3/8" for length and 7 15/16" width. Anyone know how much he will loose after it dries on average?

Uh... are you sure on the 20" on length. ;)

A big black will measure 18+ (width + length)

I don't think they shrink much, an 1/8th maybe.

Congratulations!
Your buddy just broke the black bear world record over four inches an the Grizzly bear world record by almost an inch!

I heard a funny story once where these guys where burning a inch(starting at 1" on the tape) while measuring a skull. I guess they were drinking and calling everyone they had a new world record cat by 2 inches or better.

MT F&G website, maybe it was total score

That measurement includes lower jaw. Everything in Boone and Crockett is without lower jaw. That is what I thought when I 1st got the measurements, even looked it up. I've seen some get called out and not have the facts to back it up. I'm trying to get the facts. Can someone tell me if the Mt F&G website scores are in inches or a score they put on the skull. I always thought it was inches. http://fwp.mt.gov/hunting/planahunt/records/qualifyingScores.html....... I've only shot 2 bears in my life and they weren't very big. I may of misunderstood the taxidermist and put inches on the 20 3/8. That may of been his total score. I don't know. I'm really curious now on how you score a bear. i always thought that you measured the length from the back of the skull to the tip of the lower jaw bone. Then you measure the widest point on the width. Sorry if I've been misleading, I've never dealt with bear measurements before.

That bear is BIG... you guys done Good!

And Im sorry I have to throw this "but" in... But... his skull isn't 20 " long, even with the lower jaw... The longest skull in B&C is 14 3/4 I think...and the lower jaw does not protrude hardly any, if any, past the upper teeth...

That is a bear to be happy with....Period!
