Not Virginia anymore!
Heading to Minot with my 14-year-old son later today. We’ll be free to wander around starting at about 3pm each afternoon for the next week. I’ve done a little research online but don’t know much about the town or anything around there. Would love to hear recommendations if folks have anything to share. We’re taking a couple fishing rods and golf clubs but open to just about anything. Thanks!

The silence thus far kinda speaks volumes....

Having been gone from that area for 20 years, I can't offer recent color on Minot. But having lived 25 years in the area prior to that, I can suggest you keep expectationon low on "things to do".

You missed the biggie - ND State Fair - by a day or 2, so scratch that.

You nailed the 2 summer activities there - fishing & golf.

You will find world-class walleye fishing on Sakakawea within 30-40 minutes south & west of you, but having a boat is best. Shore fishing there is doable around Garrison, Audubon or New Town.

Golfing is fairly big in ND but public courses are pretty plain (you might look into Red Mike links golf course along the Missouri south of Tioga if time of day allows).

Minot is mostly about the Air Base, farming & a bit of oil & gas.

Hope your time there is fun though. NoDakkers are really great & capable people. Hopefully others may chime in with some positive ideas!
