The wife and I just returned from our 2nd trip to Alaska. We went to see it in the "off season" without so many tourists like we were the first time. While waiting for the day to arrive where we would be leaving I was reading a thread here about moose hunting and noticed a reply. It gave his location as Wasilla, the same town we would be staying. I made a quick post saying as much and said it would be nice to meet up maybe. He replied that it sounded good and PM'ed me his phone numbers. Well, last Saturday evening my wife and I went to meet Sheep Man and his wife. We could NOT have met a more friendly down to earth and generous couple! What started out as a quick meet and greet for an hour or so turned into SEVERAL hours of talking and comparing notes about hunting and life in our respective "home areas". Once we realized the time had gotten away from us a bit we were invited out to dinner with them. I tried to pick up the check as a thanks for inviting us into their home but they would have no part of that. Our wives worked at the same kind of business so they hit it off and everyone seemed to truly enjoy the evening. Sheep Man has a BEAUTIFUL home and we were drooling over all the mounts on display. The view from the place is just priceless. To top things off, when my wife mentioned about eating moose spaghetti for the first time on this trip and wondering about steaks, Sheep Man asked if we wanted to take some moose home with us. He offered fish as well. We unfortunately had to decline because we really had no good way to get it home. He offered to help package and freeze our fish if we went back again and did some fishing. All this kindness from a guy that we had only met a few hours ago! He may feel like he did nothing special, but he made an impression on us that we won't soon forget. Thanks again Sheep Man for the great time that night. It truly was a pleasure meeting you and your wife. We hope that someday when we go BACK to Alaska we might hook up with you again. Our goal is to someday live up there, and folks like you make it that much more of a rush to get there! Just do me a favor. Don't kill ALL the moose, I would like to get one someday! :D Take care, and thanks again.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!

(note: I was going to post a thank you to BIG FIN for this reason and share a picture of my son wetting a fly yesterday. Realized then memories and stories like this are incredible to share really with one another who appreciate them, connecting us through DIY adventures. Man it is fantastic)

My plan yesterday was to post and thank Randy for making this all possible - for us to post and share and appreciate our love for the outdoors. Maybe reading our stories is thanks enough?)

Randy - thank you sir!

I'm sure lots of others have had similar experiences. I met my best friend in Idaho on that "other" website belonging to a hunting club lots of us have heard of.

Just ONE of the great sights we saw. Denali in winter from Talkeetna. Took the same pic last spring on our first trip while the river was breaking up. Most visitors don't get to see it due to clouds but we saw it BOTH trips! All I need is to find the right house...

Any time dave, I like many on different hunting forums have met great people, never have I met someone I wouldn't share our house or have dinner with....always fun talking to people that walk a different life... Take care

Our next trip is booked! More exploring, house hunting, and going to give fishing a try. Maybe I'll get a chance to meet a few more folks from the area this trip. Always nice to compare notes and make new friends.
