Manufactured Outrage

I’ve been giving lots of thought recently to the concept of manufactured outrage, a loosely defined term that I would say means overhyping a small (often non-) issue as a means to provoke. Our current political climate is one thing, but it leaks into so many areas of public life, most recently with all the stupid discourse surrounding Sydney Sweeney. I could not care less, yet suddenly my social media feed won’t stop dumping a whole lot of articles going back and forth over nothing.

There’s certainly plenty of real outrage in the hunting space over the myriad of issues we face—as other threads demonstrate. But just for fun, what do folks here feel are manufactured issues and divisions across hunting that, at the end of the day, are meaningless?

Please keep it civil.

Need to see Sydney Sweeney pics to give an accurate opinion.

For research of course

It is really an interesting observation. Even to say one doesn’t care and couldn’t care less about X, Y, Z issue is met with real contempt one way or the other.

I like to call it Faux Outrage. I see a lot of it from both political parties. I don’t know anything about the latest outrage about Ms. Sweeney.

Lots of things come to mind, both recent and dated.
Janet Reno and her jack-booted thugs were gonna take our guns…
Rescinding R-v-W was gonna leave thousands dying in the streets…
Fukushima was gonna kill the entire food pyramid…
Oil pipelines were all going to rupture…
Trump = WWIII…
Some had more merit than others, some may have actually had some morsel of truth.
To my mind they were, by and large, much ado.

Much of what you see on the news.

Ive come to the understanding you're better off watching a half hour each of bias news than to find an hour of honest news. Ecception being local.

Appreciate that everyone recognizes hyie for the sake of hype. It is easy to see that most people are happy to be distracted, and otgers are happy to hype nonsense to try and keep peoples attention. I think we need to stay on topic on this thread though. So where are the Sydney Sweeny pics we were talking about?

Dumped Facebook, Insta, never bothered with TikTok or any of that garbage.

My life so much more peaceful now than before.

HuntTalk is about as social media as I get anymore…

All good. You should be able to find all of the liberal news here that you are missing from those sites. lol

I never get Sydney Sweeney or various other babes in my algorithm because my algorithm thinks I’m gay. The only time my algorithm shows me women is when they are seething with jealously about something, which gay men seem to find absolutely delicious. Or so I’ve heard.

Crossbows.

The Sophia Cunningham brew haha was totally manufactured outrage.

How much of those online "articles" are foreign actors simply trying to sow domestic discontent?
I know so much about the WNBA now, but not one thing that’s been basketball related.

Also, yes, Tenet Media was funneling money to influencers from Russia. I wonder what percentage of online interaction are adjust Chinese and Russian bots.

I just bought a cameo for my buddy’s birthday. He’s a cross bow guy. I got the Ugandan “why are you gay?” Guy to tell my buddy he’s gay for crossbow hunting. $50 and worth every penny
