I always pay the extra $$ for overnight delivery of the tags from CPW, but this year that option was not offered. They are shipping them snail mail only. My emailed receipt stated it should arrive in 30 days. Is this how long it usually takes, or is that the worst case scenario?

I never got my license back in July when they sent them out. I submitted the LOST IN THE MAIL AFFIDAVIT online and just found out yesterday they can't guarantee I'll get it before I leave home for my hunt which is in about 4 weeks, so I have had to elect to pick it up at a vendor or DOW office when I get into the state.

Easy solution if worried about timing. Choose pick up at vendor and go to walmart or any licensed vendor for them to print out. If a nonres, just plan to hit a vendor on way

Also if leaving for a hunt and a mailed tag has not riced, for $5 you can have a vendor reprint on way to hunt.

By vendor, do you mean any Wal Mart that sells licenses?? We have a Wal Mart in Pagosa Springs close to where we hunt. Can they print a duplicate since I had the license mailed to me ?? If not, the closest Wildlife Office is at Navajo State Park in Arboles which is almost 100 miles from where we will be.

Looks like cost will be $25 max fee to print a duplicate. Details below for various scenarios. Note if season has started already you have to go to a CPW office—no doubt an anti poaching measure.
  • Eligibility: You can request a duplicate license if your original license has been lost or damaged.
  • Procedure: You can purchase a duplicate at any CPW License Agent or CDFW License Sales Office.
  • Cost: The replacement fee for big game and turkey licenses is 50% of the cost of the original license, not to exceed $25.00 per license. Other licenses may have different fees.
  • Important Note: If the request is due to incorrect information on the original, you must include the original license with the request.
  • Availability: Before opening day, duplicates are available at license agents. After the season opens, duplicates are only available at CPW offices.

Thanks Khunter. It says the replacement fee is 50%, that would really hurt. That would be about $400, but since it says not to exceed $25 I should be good.

So I've been in touch with CPW on my lost in the mail license. I was informed since I submitted the lost in the mail affidavit (LITMA), that is a pick up order for a paid for or "produced at no charge" duplicate. I have an order number associated with it and will be able to pick it up at any CPW vendor according to them. Which is good because I am in the box of the season already a couple weeks in before I get there.

I had a tag lost in the mail last year and stopped by the Ft Collins office. They had me sign a paper then replaced it free of charge.

Thanks. I called CPW and the lady advised it was mailed on August 6th. She confirmed the address, and everything was correct. Not sure why it would take over a week to get here, but at least I know it's on the way. From the replies I have received, it should be no problem getting a replacement if it doesn't arrive. Thanks again to everyone !!
