It does look like a good deal, $150 saved would buy some awesome food and drinks or fuel for the boats, like Del said. How many bears are around there? Lots. What are they like? Don't you need a big boat and deep water for them halibuts? That's about a close as you can be to the rest of the states and still be in Alaska.

When's the bear season? Sept.1 to June 30, not July and August?
