long range

After reading more post..I have to add this...if long range were easy and gave a hunter a HUGE advantage...everyone would try it...takes lots of time...doping wind, loads and range time. Some guys don't have the nerves to ever do it.

Like I said...know your limits. I hate when guys say it is unethical to take long shots, what is ethical...some states allow baiting...how is it anymore ethical to hunt any animal over bait, but not to shoot them at long range. Please, at least the guy who is taking long shots practiced to get better.
I am not taking a shot at baiting, just using it as an example of what is ethical or not.

I know guys out east who crap their pants at the thought of a 400 yard shot with a rifle and a 40 yard shot with a bow...I consider both decent shots that I dont blink at. now, if they practice, they can do the same.

Apparently within 100 yards.

wow, piecing two completely different post's together I like that..... meant too say that a mere 100 yards was for a deer.... if you actually knew anything about hunting idaho you know that I posted I went bow hunting antelope which means I couldn't go rifle hunting for antelope, so obviously I wasn't hunting antelope while I made that statement at a mere 100 yards I shot my deer..... wow... smart guys here....

hmmm.....maybe that's the key to long range hunting... a corn pile at 750 to get'r to stand still long enuff to pull one off.... that would be an advantage... :)

Gotta try it I guess....

my first deer that I shot here in Idaho I shot with my Bow at 52 yards while I was on my antelope bow hunt in Sept., which means I had a bow tag for antelope.... and the one I shot at a mere 100 yards I shot that deer with my rifle, because I bought a non-resident tag so I could shoot another deer, here in Idaho you have too specify if you want a bow tag or a any weapon tag tag for antelope. specify enough for you....?

long range shooting is to each persons ability if him or his friend feels comfy doing it go to town why rag on him? Not like he said they are up there shooting them in the butt watching them run all over the place..........I understand the wind and such plays a huge factor but there is technology out there these days that make it pretty simple

You post something, anything on a Forum and everyone is able to give their opinion of what is posted. Whether anyone agrees or disagrees, big deal. He says long range, I say that it is not the way I would do it. Pull your Big Boy Panties out of your butt and go on with whatever you want to as long as it is legal. LOL John

One of these days I should post up the story about the Dildo that shot at and hit a elk at 600 or so yards right in front of me. Not pretty, but I am sure he shot his gun 6-9 times before the season.

Of course I was the jackass that missed the same bull at 75 yards or so because I put a lead on him trotting:rolleyes:

Tell us I gotta hear this one

Long story but after his magazine was empty he walked over to me and had ZERO idea the bull was laying under a tree rolling his head back and forth like critters seem to do when they are hit to far back. He was going to go look for his son-in-law and help him dress his bull, which by the way my brother had found earlier and finished off because the son-in-law couldn't find that bull. The son in law had shot that bull at an extreme distance that morning as well and that bull was still alive 3:30PM. I chewed him out and he then went over to his bull and finished him off. We had watched these two ass clowns in action all day and I had had enough.

I truly believe there are plenty of people that can do long shots with archery and gun. But I think these people that do it and brag are certainly doing hunting and others a disservice because not everyone can do it and most are not honest with themselves.

Here in the local archery club, the local archery Hero regularly shoots critters at long distances. He has shot a bow for decades. He is a sponsored shooter and has shot under pressure in tournaments for as that long as well. He can tune a bow, he can get a perfect release, he gets it and can do it.

But he brags about it. He had a fairly new guy hanging out with him this year and that guy was successful in shooting a big muley buck in the ass @ 70 yards(finally tracked it down with help) and had a real goat rope killing a bull from the sounds of the story. Luckily he hunts private and is the only one on there. He doesn’t get it and is a long way from being able to do it.
