Does anyone have a suggestion for a log home stain? I’ve been all over the web reading reviews on different brands and all I’ve gleaned from my research is confusion. Thought I’d tap into some real life HT’er experience.
I live in Colorado at 9200 ft so UV protection is a priority. Mold and mildew is not an issue.
I’ve narrowed down to oil based, penetrating style, but want something that will last a while cuz staining a 2 story home on sloping ground is something I don’t want to do every year.
Also, Colorado recently passed a law banning stains that don’t meet VOC requirements, joining 36 other states.
Any advise or experience is appreciated.

I have a cedar sided house in sunny Idaho. I use Messmers stain. Great experience over almost 20 years. The same stain can be used for logs.

I stain every 7ish years. Last stain was 2020 and it still looks good. I might get almost 10 years from last stain.IMG_6566.jpeg

I sanded paint off last summer and stained with Sashco’s Transformation. I was told by several guys in the log home business that it is one of the best. We also rechinked with their log jam chink and it was ok to work with but have been told that perma chink is better

Gold tone dark for a stain color and buff chink color. Not the best picture but gives you an idea. Shoot me a pm if you want any other pics

I’ve used the permachink lifeline exterior for the 25 years since we built our log house. Lasts a long time and works well.
