Went to OR Fri-Sun to winterize our place and clean things up for winter. Sunday morning a guy came by and inquired if I had any rope. Being nosey I asked how heavy and person replied that he was trying to recover a bull down in a hell hole. Loaned him all of my heavy stuff and off he went saying it would be returned.......

Then state police show up...

Loaned my rope

This is all I know at this point.... Did I help a guy that was up to no good, somebody who made an honest mistake, or have a landowner who thought he owned more land than he did.

First L EO flew up our one track, peddle to the medal. Holy chit! Two hours later we heard another vehicle coming up the canyon. Wife was coming back from the privy and he stopped to inquire where XXX mine was. She told him, but asked if somebody was hurt. "No mam, I am up here to investigate somebody shooting a bull elk on private property. The property owner called it in."
To my knowledge the property owner was not at the mine so possibly the caretaker was able to get a call out. Some of the old mining properties are a patchwork of mining claim property boundaries. Most mining claim lots are 25X100 ft in the area so go from there. Bottom line it is always good to know where you are at.

I am just bummed that-
1) I helped some a-hole.
2) Somebody made a mistake and is screwed.
3) Was the meat able to be saved?
4) Will I ever get my rope back?
5) Am I glad I didn't offer to help?
6) Did the property screw up?

I checked XXX county websites for arrests today and didn't see anything so hope it comes down to the property owner screwing up. If the guy did it knowingly, hang him.
