Lighter bullets in a 22 Creedmoor, any one shooting a 55gr in an 8 twist?

A buddy of mine acquired a lot (3000) 22 caliber 55 gr bullets.
He has a 22/250, but it's very heavy, and at our advanced age It's prohibitive to carry it on long prairie dog hunts. He is thinking about getting a Ruger Amairican gen two, in 22 Creedmoor to use them up. They come in 8 twists or 7.5. Has anyone shot a 55 spear, I think, in an 8 twist? Will it still be accurate to shoot gophers and prairie dogs? Any real world experance?

My 22-250 8 twist handles the 55's just fine. Don't know about a 22 Creedmoor

That’s probably 2-3 creed barrels worth of bullets. The 1-8 might spin them too fast

Yes, when you want your bullet to hit the intended target instead of vaporizing due to too high RPMs.

I'm sure you know copper would be fine.

OP didn't specify, but I'd be surprised if his friend acquired 3k 55 gr monos. If that's the case, then rock on with the 1:8.

He did in deed get 3000 bullets free from an estate of a deer friend. I think they're Sierra bullets . He hates not using them. If he could find a new 22/250 AI in a light weight rifle he would go that route. The Ruger could have two barrel changes and he would come out a head. He shoots 2 to 3 thousand shells a year. He has two 204s each has been re barreled twice .

They should shoot just fine in a 22 CM. Just might want to watch the speed so you don't over spin them like @Waspocrew indicated. 3500fps in a 1:8 twist equates to 315,000rpm, thin jacket varmint bullet may have a come apart, don't know for sure.

I have one of the Ruger American gen 2's in 22 creed with the 1:8 twist. The lightest bullet I've put through it so far is a 60gr nosler and it shot sub MOA. I am getting slightly and I mean slightly better grouping with 70gr bullets. Haven’t had it long so haven't had a chance to play with it to much yet.
