If I can get round balls dialed in, most definitely deer. Available time will dictate Elk hunting. I'd rather hunt with BP but I also NEED Elk meat this year

The next time we see that rifle, it should be laying across an antelope or a bull elk.

Those Kibler kits look pretty nice, and there are no flies on their locks or triggers.

That is just fine and dandy. But I was thinking antelope might open first. You could even squirrel hunt with it, although a .54 can be a bit rough on them.

BTW, have you weighed that gun yet? And where does it balance? That is the first time I have seen a hollow rib, and I think it might really make the gun balance better, in addition to being lighter. I thought it was a cool idea.

Haven't weighed it, but its lighter than my two .50's. It also feels better in the hands.
Not too concerned about recoil, but im anticipating it to not be as nice.

So the build is mostly done. Need to mess with the set trigger a little, even though I havent ever used one in the past.
I want to extend a huge thanks to @BrentD
Not only did he do a masterful job on the barrel and steel parts/pieces, he has been a guiding force, holding my hand as I muddle through aspects.
Really helpful to have a perspective from someone in the know.
Im very happy with the end result. Its not perfect, but any imperfections are my own doing and inconsequential.

You have done a great job building your Hawken. On the muzzleloader forum I've seen some very nice J K Hawkens built by some very experienced builders. They have nothing on your rifle!!

But upon closer examination there are imperfections.
The process takes a whole lot of patience and is a little nerve wracking for a first timer since it wasn't cheap.
I did a pretty good job filing the barrel, but @BrentD clearly had a more discerning eye with what constitutes " polished".
The finishing of the stock was a little trial and error, at one point it was way too glossy.
But in the end, I plan on using it. Its not a showpiece.

Perfection is a myth , in all projects , IMO .
It’s a tool after all anyway, a beautiful tool .
