Things you won’t hear in Montana

Not much going this evening. Saw a few does. One of the guys spotting saw a medium buck but nothing to get excited about. They are still not seeming to be too worried. A couple of the extra guys went looking in some different spots this afternoon but I haven’t heard on anything that they saw. If it was good we would have probably heard it on the radio though.

The friend of my guide was just able to help look today so back down to only 2 extra guides and 1 helper looking for us tomorrow. The other guide has a helper also so there will be 4 guides and 2 helpers for the 2 remaining hunters.

One thing for sure I am getting better at glassing. Getting a whole lot of practice at it. I knew using a tripod helped but thought I was steady enough resting my binos on my spotting scope or using a rest like I would for a rifle but the tripod really is the only way to go in this country.

One thing that was encouraging was that on the drive back to camp in the dark we saw a ton of deer along the highway. 50+ easy in about a 5 mile stretch. We had been seeing 10 or so along the same stretch on previous days so hopefully this is a sign that they are starting to move!

P.S. - it was an absolutely gorgeous day today! Morning started crisp at 33 degrees but wind was only 7mph and it got up to the low 60s and the wind died down even more this evening it was 3 mph. Tomorrow is supposed to be about the same. Wind is supposed to stay away the remaining 4 days of the season.

I've spent what I consider a lot of time glassing.

I know it doesnt compare to what this hunt would be.

I would really trust the guides and how they feel.

What should he expect to get? He paid for a hunt right? It’s hunting. Go glass hard everyday in good spots which it sounds like the guides are doing but at the end of the day, nothing is guaranteed in hunting

Yeh . You’re right , it just seems like everyone around him is getting chances much quicker . Maybe not . Like I said I hope him the best

I feel like I’m getting more than my moneys worth. I think it is really neat how the other guides stick around to help out once their clients are tagged out.

Morning started out really good seeing about 30 does and 4 small bucks within 30 minutes of shooting light. Ended up seeing a total of 50+ does and 6 small bucks when it was all said and done.

Got back to camp late since things were moving and probably heading back out pretty quickly.

Another beautiful day out.

Really hoping that this is the sign of things to come and it will continue to get better and better.

Sometimes on family walks when I’m irritated with her, I’ll give my oldest a radio to walk ahead so I don’t have to be around her.

But yeah, maybe it’s the other thing too.

Rut doesn't happen till December down here.
