It's too late Dink!

Tarheel,

I think it was you at one time that was stating you had lived in Colorado before but did not like it because of the transient population and the lower education levels of the general population versus the south.

Still want to go with that view?:D

You've a point there, but I like to think they are the exception rather than the norm. There is a scattering of that type of people in every state I've been in, and that includes most of the states. It wasn't as much a lower education level as it was insufficient emphasis placed on higher education for the masses. There are some pretty sharp cookies in CO, with the exception of one of your female senators.

What are you talking about, the governor wants to educate all the illegals at the college level for the same price as a resident.

I'm sure the melon and onion farmers are going to start requiring a degree to pick crops soon...lol

When Immigration Reform swells the Democratic party by millions and they all join the union, college graduates will be affordable for the ag picker industry.

There's enough of us transplants to have raised the bar a little...:D

I have no doubt; I'd be disappointed if nothing had changed. When I arrived in Denver in 1961 it was little more than an overgrown cattle town. Urban flight took place in the mid 60's and the suburban sprawl began. Advance to the 70's and the dynamics had changed; the energy boom and bust cycles that hit the area made for a constant flux of people moving in, moving out; construction workers and energy workers wore the roads out between Denver and Houston. The gas crunch in '74 and the subsequent downturn of the auto industry brought tons of people from Detroit and others from the major cities of the midwest and upper midwest for their own reasons. The best part of that was all the attractive females who made the trip; Denver was the happening place to go. All the while the city was trying their best to become a cosmopolitan mecca, but there were some pieces missing. Construction projects were put on hold because gas hookups couldn't be provided fast enough. Construction workers were shuffled around to whomever could get building materials. Freeway construction was lagging the growth by 10 years, and then the bust came. Large apartment complexes and housing areas under construction came to a halt and were basically abandoned. Squatters moved into abandoned apartments and couldn't be moved out. The place was a mess!
All this flux didn't lend itself to stable families with stable jobs who could plan for their children's future and education; they had to eat. Higher education at the time seemed to be the providence of the comfortably employed and the wealthy who could predict their futures with some confidence and act accordingly. I had a good job and could afford to educate my kids, but saw all too many who never gave it a thought, and I wanted my kids to finish growing up in an environment which had a longer history and sense of tradition. For that I'll offer no apologies.
I still love CO, miss it tremendously, and get back there every chance I can, but my children have both thanked me for moving them here, and we're all very comfortable in the choice.

How come Californians never move to Texas? Things that make you go hmmmm...............

Oh they do, but the Texans threaten them to keep them quiet. My best friend from childhood lives in the DFW area, of course he's an artsy type...
