It' a bird, It's a plane, It's a party balloon

Seriously, I found four party balloons in the last few days. In the 80's and 90's I would find one or two a year. Now the population of party balloons is getting out of hand. They seem to be multiplying like rabbits. Is anyone else tried a finding balloons. Just had to vent a little.

I find more party balloons than I do antlers. Of course they shine way more than an antler. I've found them at over 9000 ft - more than 20 miles from a town. I never keep them - so I've got nothing to add to a franken baloon thread.

I was hunting pronghorn in a remote part of SW MT, and saw something white hung on a fenceline. It was too white to be anything other than a pronghorn we thought. We walked at least a mile out of our way to check it out and sure enough, party balloon.

Found a clump of 4 of them the other day up looking for turkeys. Seems like it's hard to go anywhere without finding balloons or beer cans.

I probably average 5-10 a year while out hiking and hunting. The last balloon find included a bunch of postcards from a school class requesting info on where the balloons were found. The school was probably 50 miles from where we found them

I found a balloon in in SW Montana, it had info listed on it so I called the number and it was released from Salem Oregon. It travelled over 600 miles and up over the continental divide of the Beaverhead Range.

I've found many balloons in the backcountry. Not many yield their source but years ago while doing vegetation surveys in the Grand Canyon I found remnants of an old rubber balloon released three years prior from a Catholic school in Los Angeles as part of a fund raiser. Another, on top of the Continental Divide near Rocky Mountain Park was released from a Las Vegas casino. Last fall I found a mylar balloon in the Flat Tops Wilderness that came from a wedding party in Salt Lake City. Some litter can go a long ways.

I thought it was a sign for how many sheds I'd find on that hillside. It wasn't.
