Is chasing Wyoming permits worth it?

Sheesh this thread took a turn for the worst. I enjoyed trikes perspective. I honestly don’t believe it’s worth it for most.

I had 8 points when I drew my tag the first time. That’s $400 in points. I had a Sherpa with me tag cost $700 ish at the time. Gas money and back window of the pickup. Got attacked by a bear in the wall tent which turned out to be feral cats. Luckily the Sherpa ran them off. I’m in with 9 points this year. That’s $460 or so. I have experience elk hunting if you only get to do it once or twice it might be better to hunt whitetail. That chit is fun and that’s what it’s all for.

That’s one way to say it and share a perspective vs. typing in all caps about how killing an elk is gonna cost $50k and that there’s no value to real hunting in the west.

hahaha :ROFLMAO: your not even fun to have a pissing match with. I mean let’s at least start calling one anothers wives ugly or something. We’re just posting stupid chit to post it at this point.
Have read and stayed out until now, but couldn’t resist participating in this thread. 😃 Trike23, your first post was too long for me to read all in detail, but I think I got the gist. Thanks for waking everyone up from the winter doldrums. I for one appreciate your efforts.

At 66 my best Western days are in the rear view mirror, despite 300+ points in 6 states. I’m quite pleased to have whitetail & turkey opportunity nearby in Illinois every year, dirt cheap on LL privileges. After 30 years of scouting/hunting there statewide, I have a huge inventory of good public land spots. Still a moving target though with the throngs of MS, LA, AL, GA, FL, PA & MI competition growing every year. It’s gotten so bad, after retiring last year I decided to shift my efforts to the entire month of October to beat the massive November invasion. Even my most remote boat access spots are polluted by 11/7. I’d rather hunt unpressured but less active bucks before the rut than deal with the increasing traffic.

Still do all the Western draws, love elk but it’s now just a bonus if I manage one permit. Focusing on low to mid tier units out there these days. Was fortunate to score a lot of big ones before the internet.

Wishing everyone good luck in WY & AZ.
