It seems some would rather stick to 5% odds and complain about the system that, coincidently, also provides those 100% odds tags.

There is oppertunity to hunt in western states. What there isn't is enough premium tags to go around. 3,600 residents put in for 40 tags in a premium deer unit. Most of them will never
draw or will give up before drawing that unit in hopes of better odds.
When you complain about not getting opportunity, what I hear is you aren't getting to hunt the sex you want, for the species you want, where you want, when you want. If you cut the nonsense you can go hunt the species pretty regularly particularly if you spread out over a couple states. That way you contribute to the point creep you hate in more states than one you currently hate. If we had 23 antelope per square mile I'm sure the state would be more than happy let out more licenses, but they live in high desert that will not produce the numbers of animals per square mile that a soybean in the midwest can.

Nope, and that was a genuine just helpful tip as you seem to think it's impossible to hunt elk in Wyoming.
Actually, I wasn’t complaining at all. That’s what makes this even more funny
. Heck I buy my point every year. I don’t need a outfitter or lodging. It’s called playing devils advocate. I was merely stating that participation in point systems and draws could start to decline over the years. Elk hunting is a FAD right now. It won’t be forever. People act like it’s no other hunting opportunities in the entire country. Cheaper, easier, less complicated opportunities. For OOSERS also. People who travel to hunt.Not residents. Residents in Wyoming are living the good life. I know this. I know Plently of them.
It’s no wonder the west is overloaded with hunters and has more interest then game. Goodness, you so much as mention other hunting opportunities and you would think I called someone’s Grammy a dirty name. Put your guns away cowboys.
Also I’ve read all of Ernest Hemingway’s work.Great writer, troubled man.

Cry baby. I'm 36 bought my first point in 2015 for western hunting. Have hunted 4 states NM,CO,WY, and NV killed multiple elk, mule deer, and antelope while still hunting my whitetail does here at home. My last elk tag I filled was a type 6 Wyoming hunt that cost me far less then 2k all in and I rented a cabin for 5 days. Try harder and stop making excuses!The entire hunting atmosphere in the west is mind boggling. We are seeing anti out of state movements for all species across all spectrums. The states don’t want average working class men and women hunting in their states. That is clear and evident despite what anyone says. The idea is to cater to the ones with the deepest pockets and those willing to hire outfitters. Mostly it’s just turned into a money making scheme. I’m just not sure that is the best idea when hunting culture in general is dying. We lose more and more hunters every year. Where things are headed is pay to play for everything.
Not saying it should be NO limits on none residents at all either. It should be. The points systems and price of tags though basically feel like extortion. Not actual extortion of course, nobody is breaking any legs. Emotional extortion though I’d say yes.
The threat is basically Pay us now for maybe over a decade or more or watch your bucket list dream go down the toilet.
I would have to imagine it has already backfired on them In a lot of ways. When you are young you have dreams but no money. You get older you get a little money but now your 40 thinking, my goodness I’ll be 60 before I draw this tag! Not to mention then maybe give some outfitter an additional 6-20k. Or just DIY it with little to no actual elk hunting experience. Not everyone is like me where I’ll come out and just go to go with no tag. At the end you are wrapped in maybe up to 50k to MAYBE kill ONE elk
Let me tell you guys something. I think something that is lost on a ton of western guys. You can kill a BOAT LOAD( not a exaggeration.) of whitetails on DIY hunts in eastern states for what it would cost to kill one elk in Wyoming and many other western states.No draws, no points, Just buy a license (which is usually like 100 bucks.) have a set limit of deer you can kill, in many cases thats all but infinite in antlerless deer. The value for a HUNTER, not a ego antler obsessed maniac, a man or women who just loves the outdoors and loves to hunt period, is NOT there in the west. You may not get the bluffs and vistas of the west but you are hunting a very abundant species at a reasonable price. I expect to see the value of whitetails in the east just continue to climb and western states just to continue to diminish. Not that one is better then the other but from a purely financial standpoint.
We visit my wife’s family every year in the summer in Wyoming. I fish, I hike all over anywhere I want to go and it cost me what the fishing license cost and I LOVE Wyoming. It’s becoming a second home and it’s talk of relocating eventually. So, it’s not a bash on the state at all. Just a observation as a average blue collar solid middle class middle aged guy who has done basically EVERYTHING in the outdoors except for western hunting and offshore fishing.

It really ain't bad once you get the idea of any part of it being fun out of your head. Its all down hill from there.

Never said opportunities are not out there. Of course they are. Who is saying they aren’t? Also though who is saying the don’t get harder and harder year after year though?
So you started collecting points in your 20s? What if you were 50 had no idea about any of these things? Wanted to check it off your bucket list?
CO had a ton of OTC tags for years so take that one out. NM is a random draw you pay for every year, NV same thing, I believe. Wyoming has a points system. Your in WAY over 2k. Way way over 2k. Fun isn’t cheap. Don’t act like it’s not a yearly financial investment though.
