Iowa legislative session 2026

I usually tell people most of the bears we see are young males who are looking for their own territory. At this time there is not a breeding population but the populations in Wisco and Minnesota are expanding. There have been bears overwintering in Iowa for several years.
A couple of years back IDNR showed a mother with cubs on their web page. While I would not say that constitutes a population, it is a significant step up from
The wandering males.

The INHF and the ICCS put out an update this morning. Today marks the 29th day of the session and 2 weeks until the first funnel. At the funnel bills that have been introduced have to be passed by their assigned committee. Eminent Domain and Property taxes are the two big things that everyone has been talking about so far, but the House has introduced 342 House Files and 192 Study Bills so far, while the Senate has 230 Senate Files and 105 Study Bills.

if you can’t say a body of water is impaired, then it’s not! This dandy, affecting everyone in Iowa and downstream are affected by this bill that passed out of subcommittee today!

How can anyone take a politician seriously when they propose bills like this, last year this same knuckledragger proposed we buy 3 counties in Minnesota, this year he wants to build a stadium to bring the Chichago Bears to Iowa.

Iowans already have at least two professional teams.
Meh..🫤 it’s not even that. How can anyone take this dude seriously at this point. The bills he introduces are laughable at best. People complain about waste of tax payers money but they vote this guy to sponsor bills that are a joke, a mockery.

Dear god take them and all of the people who come with them. Do it now. I'll help them move.

Maybe his constituents have figured that this is all politicians are good for. Comedy.

Illinois has the same idiots. We have bills requiring permits for open fires(think campfires, fire pits, brush piles) with huge fines, fees for plastic shopping bags that increase every year, mileage tax THEY SAY only for EVs but we know how that goes.

One year Illinois was trying to require you to license tubes that you pull behind a boat! 😂

I hate more permits and regulations but
Open fires I understand. Someone dies in our area every year because they are burning ditches and they pay no attention to the wind or humidity or fire breaks or anything else.

I think Iowa may be in the minority of places that don’t charge for bags. In Hawaii at Safeway they had self checkout but a lady would come around and sell you your bags before you began to checkout. How am I supposed to know how many I will need?

Evs are funny, but not as funny as their drivers. Last night on the way to Iowa City I had an unmarked Sherriff pull out behind me and was following me for 10 miles probably. We were going 8-10 over the whole way. a Tesla came zooming past us and the Sherriff let him go for a few miles. All of a sudden the sherrif was right on my tailgate as we were passing other cars. I merged back into the right lane and he ripped past us. Flipping his lights on as he went by and pulled that Tesla over. I slowed traffic so they could merge to the right across both lanes. As I went past he waived at me with a grin.

I’m admittedly ignorant of most of what happens at the State level east of ND, but from what you’ve posted here, your guys are as crazy as our guys. Not sure if that should make us all feel better, or worse, or just #sad.
It’s not a R or D thing. What’s sad is that I know the representatives for our district and I truly believe they want what is best for people and their constituents but they have to follow their party. I see that when I talk to them and interact with and see their kids at school and sporting events. Why can’t an R or a D just vote for what the majority of the people want and not the corporation writing the checks wants?

Money.
