Iowa legislature has not adjourned yet, but they are way past the scheduled session date, arguing about carbon pipeline eminent domain. The likelihood of a crappy hunting bill being slipped through is very low at this point.
This legislative session saw a ton of truly awful hunting-related bills proposed by the natural resource committees, nearly all of which would have reduced resident access to quality hunting opportunities.
They did manage to triple the DV nonresident turkey allocation, with zero corresponding benefit to Iowa residents. Bills with giveaways to veterans are difficult to fight because it gets couched in terms of pro or anti US military, rather than where it should be as natural resources trustee obligations.
I still am nowhere close to being able to wrap my head around just the sheer volume of horrible laws pushed by industries, and floated by lawmakers. Continually playing defense to preserve habitat and hunting access year after year is exhausting and annoying.

The only thing that could be slipped through is budget items at this point. All other bills have had to go through committees and subcommittees and full votes. If something is alive it has gone through this process. The elected officials and their staff only get a perdiem for 100 days. If they are still debating it must be a hot topic. Carbon pipelines are.

If they want to properly care for their residents when are they going to revoke property taxes and free the state from all these illegal immigrants and kick everyone off welfare who can workI hope that Iowa is able to properly care for their residents- glad you agree.

Obviously you are not from Iowa because one of the republican candidates for governor is running on that platform. But the problem is they’d have to raise the sales tax to offset the loss and in 2010 the people of Iowa voted that the next time sales tax is raised 2/3 of the first percent will go to natural resources. They even voted on how the money will be divided between conservation groups. Unfortunately for them in 2010 Iowa didn’t consider Farm Bureau a Conservation group so they were left out of the funding pie. Flash forward to 2026 and Farm Bureau is now considered a Demi god in Iowa and politicians are going to do whatever it takes to keep their pockets lined and to #*^@#* their constituents in the rearend without the use of lube or even the common courtesy of a reach around just to please FBA.
