I first start hunting Idaho's big timber whitetails back in 1989. I shot my best whitetail buck to date in 1994 (photo below).

From the mid 90's thru 2008, I missed hunting Idaho whitetails as my focus shifted to elk, moose, antelope and mule deer. I missed the camp atmosphere and in 2009 made the decision to hunt the big timber every year I could (god willing). We had a great 2011 season going 10 for 10 (nine nice bucks and one big doe). The weather was perfect and although the rut hadn't fully kicked in, bucks were numerous. I did chase one "masher" of a buck for an hour or two, but he was always a bit smarter and faster than I was. Next year should be good as we saw and glassed many immature bucks. Enjoy the photos.

Now that looks like a ton of fun. Let me see here .... OTC tags, public land, lots of rutting activity. Yup, I gotta get that one in the bucket some year.

Congrats.

That's awesome. Couple great bucks.
I was all set to go over and do that this year, and then my elk tag had to go unpunched here in MT. One of these years I'll make it.

Really nice bucks, congrats. I need to get back up to whitetail country for sure, I'd even be willing to show a couple guys around.
