Hey all, I know this is a complete long shot, but I’m out of options. My son drew a youth bull tag in unit 31, but the Idaho regs state I have to have a tag to go with him. I have put in for every draw and leftover option I can and have come up empty (one last shot on the 17th).
Does anyone know someone in the area that would be willing to accompany us? I do not want to break it to my son that he can’t go on his first elk hunt because of a stupid rule.
Or any suggestions for an outfitter that would be able to have someone go with us?

They awarded him a permit but said he can't have anyone accompany him on his hunt unless they are also a tag holder?

I helped a NR family member years ago with the Junior tag. The rules haven’t changed but the price was increased significantly. It used to be less than $100 for the kid to have deer and elk. The rules were easy before tag demand went crazy. Father could pick up a tag.

I’d recommend you join several of the Idaho hunting groups on FB. I checked and the member number is 10k to 27k?depending on the group. You might find a helpful guy. Although you’ll get harassed too. I’m not hunting near 31 nor have the extra time. Otherwise, I’d help.

Thanks for the input, I’ll try that as well.

So your child will be on the youth mentored program (age 10 or 11?) I believe if they are 12 or up they don’t need the adult with the same tag.
