I drew a elk tag (bull) for unit 45 in Idaho that goes August 1st thru 29th. Think it would be better to be there early in the hunt? Or wait and hope for the bulls to start separating and headed to look for the cows? Any thoughts or theorys?

I would be out there each and every day I could. IMHO , early ,late makes no real difference. it will probably be hotter then the gates of hell either way. have a plan to get it out fast.
I doubt you will find any problem finding bulls at any time in august ,in 45. your biggest problem will be that public access is very limited up high where the majority of the bulls are likely to still be at that time.

Was at the F&G meeting when they talked about this hunt. They showed pictures of elk in the corn. Bulls tear them up in August. Farmer/ranchers want them out of there. Call F&G in Jerome - they should tell you who is complaining about elk. I live nearby - need help in the heat?
