I walked into the basement this morning and got chittered at by a red pine squirrel that has claimed our house and is trying to evict us. The two indoor cats want no part of this.
This happened 20 years ago and it was a real rodeo. I got lucky and was able to get a clear shot with a pellet pistol. There is too much "treasure" piled up in there now.

Any advice on live trapping a pine squirrel? I can't go the lethal trap route because MRS and my son would never forgive me if their cats were collateral injuries.

Get a live cage trap and use a piece of bread with a good dob of peanut butter and maybe a slice of apple. I have caught a ton of em.

During Covid, the “Chipmunkinator” live trap (Google it) and sunflower seeds claimed many red squirrels for my daughter and I.

Compared to other squirrel species, they go absolutely crazy once they realize they are stuck in a trap.

put a weasel box in there with peanut butter. Cats can’t get snapped. I get squirrels plugging up my weasel boxes every now and then.

Glue traps are brutal. But they work. I will not tolerate rodents in my space. They never make it past the garage. mtmuley
