I built and app, wanted to share it here for some feedback

I know I am newer to this site, and have appreciated the different threads, especially the camp pics one. I did reach out to Randy and got approval to post this, since I know there are rules against posting about your own products.

My group has hunted the same spot on public land in northern MN since the late 50s, 16 guys in camp now. Like probably most of you, our camp stuff has just been a group text and somebody's spreadsheet (or drawn on the side of our wall tent ), and half the old photos are gone because somebody switched phones and never backed them up.

I ended up building an app for it, called HuntLodge. Nothing fancy, just trying to keep camp stuff in one place instead of scattered everywhere:

• harvest log with photos, weight, score, year by year
• a message board for the camp
• dues/expenses so I'm not tracking people down every fall
• photo gallery, not just harvests, just camp life stuff
• trip planner

Kind of ends up being a journal of your whole hunting life, all the camps, all the trips, all the harvests, in one place instead of spread across old phones and photo albums.

Big reason I built it is the history side. We've got guys who have been coming to this camp for 50+ years and guys who just joined, and a lot of what I love about the camp is the old stories and photos that get passed down. Wanted a spot where that stuff doesn't just disappear, especially for the new guys coming in.

It's on the App Store now (play store soon), free to use, with some paid tiers that unlock extra features and more photo storage if you want them. Not trying to just drop a link and bail, actually want to know if this is useful for camps outside mine or if I'm solving a problem nobody else has. How's your camp keep track of this kind of stuff now?

Agreed, and I do plan to support and continue to improve that app. My day job is managing a software engineering team and hoping that experience helps me navigate this, but I am sure I will have plenty of bumps along the way.

Would love to hear about your hosted site and what you track or find valuable.

Mine was for "trips" with people i invited. Essentially the same group went fishing or golfing. Site had a picture section, budget section and i found a js plugin for venmo that i hacked to only allow deposits to one account. Group could see who paid. Gave them 3 days to pay then i removed the venmo plugin. It was also prtoected by a 256bit key based hash algorithm. They all got the magic number to plug in to expose the venmo screen.

Was it secure? Hell no, no controls between trips. If you had the url you were in. It ran on my apache server, so i could lock everyone out simply by turning my server off.

Others wanted it but also wanted it better, told them no, i did it for fun not profit.

Wow, that is pretty cool. I initially planned to have a Stripe integration to allow camp members to pay dues, but decided to hold off for the rollout as it added a lot of complexity and risk.
