I am researching Hunters Safety and I found out that I have to go to a class 3 hours a night, and half day sat and sun, which I think comes out to about 23 hours or so.. I know that in California I had to go for one Saturday for 6 hours... I am just wondering how other states compare?

WHODC glad you are looking into it.It is a very good class that teaches ya alot.I honestly believe that a person should have to take a refresher course every 5 years or so just to keep themselves safe.I have taken it 3 times I belive and learned something new everytime.

"In New Mexico if you are over 18 all you have to do is show that you can ride a four wheeler, drink a 12 pack of natural light and still be within 500 feet of hitting your target."

Idaho has added a new requirement to that .

The seat-ometer test------ If your butt cheeks dont extent over the side of the ATV seat you fail the test.
You are then required to go home drink more beer , eat more donuts and don't walk any farther that you have to.

Idaho has a few options.
Instructor-Led, it's 15-17 hour's Plus 4-6 hour field day.

Independent Study Course ---with a 6-7 hour field day.

When I took my Hunter Ed. class, through Tacoma sportsman Club, it was 3 nights a week for 2-3 hours plus 1 Sat. for gun safety on the rifle range, and how you were to act in the field with gun safety along with shot placement on animals, for killing shots. I believe the class was $15.
My dad signed me up for it and sat in on the classes with me. It was great fun.

Well I guess I do have to shoot a gun on Saturday, so WH said not to take it til He teaches me how to shoot a rifle. I do know how to shoot one, but it has been a while so a refresher course is always good...

California now requires more than 6 hours. You can still do it in one day, but it is a loooong day. 10 hours or more, I think.

As an NRA Instructor, I learned NEVER to pair up a boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife in a class. I always separated them, preferably the woman with another woman and the guy with another guy. There must be something genetic that makes every guy think that he has to demonstrate to his lady that he knows more than the instructor (by osmosis?) about guns. Not that WH doesn't know about guns - it is just that in a classroom situation, in front of their women, guys can be real arrogant.

I think it's great that you are going to be hunting!

Well living with WH here are my choices...learn to hunt or be without him for 4 months..... He is worth the hunt by a long shot!!!
