After buying @Justabirdwatcher 's stock - i just finished puting my own superlite together. With a 418 dollar barreled action, 20 dollar transfer, 215 dollars in the stock, 160 in the bottom metal, ive got about 860 ish into the whole set up minus the scope.
Not being one for polymer bottom metal (and the issues had with torque busting polymer) - i found one from DIP inc that is very nice and used the factory magazine. I like dbms and didnt want the other option of a drop plate from oregon gunsmithing. After moving the magazine catch to the new bottom metal, i put the rifle together with talley ultra lights and a viper pst 1 4-16x50 (22.4 oz many scopes are 7/8 oz lighter). Totalled up its 7.2 lbs - considering i added an ounce or two with bottom metal and the scope choice is heavy, i am pretty pleased. I havent shot it yet but will when i update this thread when i do. I didnt screw my suppressor on - but it weighs about 8/9 oz so all in it'll be around 7.5 lbs with proper hearing protection.
Fit and finish on the gun is pretty good, it is not a sako buts better than many and is beyond what youd expect for around 400 bucks. The rear of the bolt has some tooling marks upon close inspection... Beyond that i cant find anything very noticable. The stock fits the action well, centering the barrel in the channel, after torquing it down. The 3 position safety, bolt release, and magazine release are all functional and operate as i would expect. Ive read complaints on the magazine latch but cant find anything id want to be vastly different. It will only operate when you intend - and its out of the way.
One thing is for sure - superlite is a fitting name - it feels almost unnatural when holding it. It does point well, though a small bit short for me in a t shirt. I imagine with coat on it will fit about right. It should carry well and make for a very handy hunting rifle.
I plan to follow howas break in procedure - even though i think its sort of silly. Excited to see how it and I can shoot. Hoping for MOA or better.
I did contact howas customer service, i lost (toddler borrowed it) the magazine latch pin. They sent me a new one, almost right away, but impatient as i am, i was able to cut a steel pin from a hardware store that worked out great.
