How close to due dates do you hunt?

Eh I wouldn't do it. Personally, it would be hard for me to truly enjoy and will be pretty stressful on your wife. Unless you can get some family help, so she has someone to take her to the hospital, etc.

Bringing this one back.

Our third child is due December 5th. I'm planning a deer hunt two weeks prior. Feeling very on the fence right now, and kind of coming to grips with the fact that I might need to stay home.
Our first two kids were both a week early and both labors were fast and furious (less than an hour), so I know I don't have much leeway.

The unit is only an hour and a half away, but we'd have decent hikes in and out, and the cell service is patchy.
Do you have family or someone else to help out if she were to go into labor while you're gone? Don't make your wife deal with trying to get to the hospital with the other two kids while in active labor.

First, congrats on the upcoming arrival! Second, I would pass. Both of ours were fast and furious and less than an hour as well. Personally, missing that experience would place an enormous amount of regret and shitty feeling inside me for the rest of my days. I'm not putting myself in the position there would be even a slight chance of that happening. Especially over a stupid deer. Good luck on your deer hunt whenever you make it out!

While this topics flowing - reminder that the homosapien rut should close for some of us in a few weeks and remain closed for a few months 😁. Or you risk this.

I would play it by ear - all depends on whats going on. But i wouldnt be certain. And id think its unlikely it works out.

Alternatively - get a sat messenger 😅

As someone who just got away with an opening day hunt 2 weeks before a due date of our first, I was planning on being out a second day, but after some nervous messages, returned home a bit early. Glad I went out, also glad I came home when it was the right time.

The bonus being that we went and picked a bunch of chanterelles the next day, and she decided she wanted to do her hunters ed to have the option to hunt in the future. Most of my waking hours are spent thinking about hunting, so it was good to have a day out, also good to have a day of connecting before life changes. I'm sure a second/third would be a whole new experience to consider.

First congrats man! Just had our third and one and we were up there 3 times the two weeks prior for false alarms. My personal rule was once she was a month away we never got more then 1 hour from the hospital. This last one was 6 days early and was out in less then a hour although I think she waited longer then she would've due to the previous false alarms. Thought he was gonna come in the Tacoma for a minute.

If I had to choose I would trade every hunt past and future to be at the birth of my children.

What about this scenario: if your wife's due date was October 1st and still hasn't gone into labor, would you still hunt?

Actually my current situation just I'm not going hunting anywhere further than 30 minutes away.

I'd be riding that OB's ass for a induction date 🤣. Congratulations!
