home construction project trade for cow hunt?

When I built mine, I put commercial greenhouse shade cloth on top and fastened it to the stringers. It provides shade in the summer but lets the snow melt through in the winter.
We have that now on top. We hate it ( sorry). We cant enjoy spring or fall with rain or winter with the snow melt dripping. We have a nice patio set we put out but cant leave it our because everything get wet. So every time we go we have to take it back off patio.

At the end of the day the boss wants it covered. Shes the cook and hospitality mgr. when I go out hunting. Don't mess with the chief. I have been putting this off for many years.

For a cow hunt I'll come out there with a building inspectors badge and mansplain to your wife why it cannot be done !
I'll throw in terms like the buildings integrity , structural deviations and related consequences , unintended designed weaknesses and long term longevity .
Should only take half a day and then we can hunt !
Let me know , I'll start packing .... ....

Not a builder but have you thought of detaching completely from the house and raising the house side and cantilever over the eave/gutter area. That would eliminate the concern of snow/ice build-up damage.

No worries. We live in a virtual desert so sun is our biggest issue and for that the shade cloth is ideal 3 out of 4 seasons. Way too windy and cold to spend time on the patio in the winter so not an issue here. And on the Mama front… I get it. Happy wife is a happy life!

I do a fair few steel roofs. If it was me, I would bring the pergola up and add some pitch to it. Remove the gutter and facia, tie the pergola back into the header and truss tails, and use a pitch transition pan with the best silicone sealant you can find on the closure strips and butyl tape the seams. But...at that point you are pretty much rebuilding the entire thing.

Yes but the cost was atrocious. Live in an area with small population so limited with contractors available. Everyone says it’s not a big enough project.
