Hip replacement questions?

I had mine done in Bozeman three and a half years ago at 48 years old. I did cortisone shots in the fall so I could waterfowl hunt. Mountains were out of the question at this point.I went in to operation room at seven am and was walking at two in the afternoon. A massive improvement on quality of life for me.

This thread is really helpful, thanks for the good news. I probably need a new hip after years of hiking and hard work. Gardening is very painful and should be enjoyable. Where in Wyoming/Utah/Idaho is a good place to get this done?

My wife's ortho said walk as much as you would like. Unless painful, it's therapy. For wife it was no pain at all ... so she has been walking alot ever since.

I’d look at Park City or SLC, UT, or Jackson, WY. Ski towns seem to have pretty good orthopedic options. You didn’t mention CO, but the same would be true there.

Still waiting on a consult. The first ortho clinic said it was not in their wheelhouse due to the advanced state of osteoarthritis. I have a referral to another clinic and am waiting to hear back from them.

My hip was pretty stiff today so I went for a mountain bike ride this afternoon. That seems to really help loosen it up.
 
I don't know anyone that's ever expressed even the slightest misgivings about getting a hip replacement, even when it's needed at a fairly young age. I think my Dad had his first one at about 55. The general consensus I get is that everyone wishes they'd have done it earlier.

My dad, 62 on Sunday, just scheduled a knee replacement for November. I'm hoping he feels the same way.

The way it felt this morning isn’t leading to misgivings at all. I’m just hoping I can grit through the winter.
