Help my inner Jeremiah Johnson... just got a new muzzleloader

Yes, it is a 1-48 twist. It will shoot both. The question is what do you want to shoot conical or PRB? If you decide to use the conical bullets, then buy a lead furnace and mold. It will pay for itself by the time you get the wind and trajectory figured out.

The problem is cost to shoot a muzzleloader if you just want to buy and go shoot one deer then put it in the closet and forget about it. then buying a 20 pack of slugs sounds good. But in reality you're not doing the gun, yourself or the deer justice.
Thank you sir

How about this instead? Not a .58, but there is nothing like direct ignition.

Super interesting, but aesthetically not my thing. I do like the simplicity of it though. I watched a few videos on other underhammers and it seems like a cool way to do it. I'm also probably not going to buy anything right now for a variety of reasons, but I will be keeping an eye out for the GRRW guns just in case.

Watch here.

And here, also

Any rifle with a Bill Large barrel is desirable. Any Hawken made by Brant Selb is also very desirable. And many others as well.

Just bought NIB off a forum dirt cheap!!!
I grease mine up with Babybel cheese wax in the grooves. Warm it in my hands to pliable enough to press in there and it stays put. I use 2F cartridges I rolled in flash paper and accuracy is same with just those or patch/card under bullet.

I've seen round balls work well in my 54 and 58 Hawkens. I personally like Swiss ffg a lot. It ignites easily and fast. And my loads are very accurate in both rifles. I think most folks go a bit heavy on charge weights. Start around 75 grains and top out around 105. See what shoots best.

I like easy to seat loads so go with .530 and .015 patches or .570 and .015 patches. Both shoot very well.

Ive killed 22 deer with an Leman Indian Trade rifle 54 cal PRB with a well placed .530 round ball its deadly. The guys are tight find the twist rate mine has a 1x66. I use a fixed buckhorn. Try not to make it into a LR rifle Its not most all of my shots were under 100 yds you just have to pass on a lot of deer that are just to far away
