Help Me Pick a Fish Finder

I've owned a lot of this stuff over the years and was always partial to Hummingbird as it seems the most simple and user friendly. On advice of a guy I considered pretty knowledgeable, I outfitted my present boat with the latest greatest Lowrance stuff and now wish I would have stayed with Hummingbird.

Any of the Helix models are great IMHO. We have the Helix 12 with the lakemaster card and I love the thing. We use the heck out of it.

I use the "follow the contour" feature a lot and it works very well for bass fishing along the bank. I dont even have to drive the boat. Its wonderful....

I agree with everyone else on the helix. I have the helix 7 g3 talk about a game changer

I've never been able to figure out how those things work in the first place. Got one on the boat, came with the boat and from what I can tell if there's fish down there is a little picture of a fish comes on the screen. Not a clue if it's one of the side ones of what? I think maybe the best way to know if there's a fish down there is put a worm on a hook and drop it down to see if it gets ate! Gonna go walleye fishing soon and they are supposed to be bottom feeders. Not a clue how I'm gonna find them. Really sad thing for me is I spent eight years in the military as a radar operator. Got out in 1973 so maybe I just forgot everything!

Any tips or tricks or references from using one of the helix units? I’m working to get things mounted and should have it out next weekend if the ramps aren't iced in

Picked up a new unit today, time to give the touchscreen and Garmin products out. I've been in the market and pretty much wanted to keep my parameters around the same as this thread.

@Four22 have you gotten out to give your new unit a go?

Not yet. Last weekend was high 70s with 30-40 mph winds, and yesterday was 25 with the same winds and skim ice….

HOPEFULLY next weekend i can get out

Side imaging is pretty awesome.

I need to play with it and get the settings figured out but was able to see the fence posts on both sides of the old road 😁
